Each year graduating seniors from the College of Communication and Information are asked to rate their overall level of satisfaction with the quality of instruction, advising, equipment availability, facilities, course offerings and course scheduling. The advertising program within the School of Advertising and Public Relations scored the highest level of satisfaction overall in the college for the last two years. Graduating seniors reported they would “highly recommend” the major to a friend or peer.
In addition, exit surveys administered at the school level find strategically engaged students who, “love not being the ‘average’ major at UT and being able to think outside the box.” Others report the major to be rigorous but intellectually satisfying saying, “It hasn’t been easy, but it has been fun. [Advertising] combines business, marketing, creativity, and psychology and makes you well prepared for working.” Another reports, “It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it in the end. You’ll have learned a lot along the way” and still others reflect on their personal growth saying, “I’ve been challenged and forced to grow as a person and professional.” Finally, it’s important to note that students recognize the ever-changing world of advertising and career implications. One senior advertising student sums it up this way, “This is an industry that is exciting and dynamic. You have the opportunity to challenge people, to make them think, which is so powerful.”
