Who should be an AD major?
Those wishing to pursue a career in advertising should be team players, have strong written and verbal skills, be able to work under short deadlines, have an eye for detail and great interpersonal skills. They should be curious about practically everything, like to have fun, love a good challenge and be fearless in the pursuit of their ideas. They should not be short on imagination, or lack energy and drive, they must be organized, critical thinkers as well as be media savvy.
If you just know everything you say and do is persuasive further consider the words of “cultural provocateur” George Lois, one of the most successful and influential creative ‘ad men’ of the mid to late 20th century, “if you’re a young person with an entrepreneurial sprit who aspires to succeed, not only in business, but in life, your mission is not to sedate, but to awaken, to disturb, to communicate, to command, to instigate, and even provoke.” If this sounds like just what you are looking for, then a major in advertising is for you.
